How To Measure Your Dog

Measuring your dog is important to ensure a proper fit and the ultimate comfort for your furry friend. We’ve provided a step-by-step guide to help you measure your dog so you can purchase the correct sizes for their new accessories.

Use the diagram below to help.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR A COLLAR

You will need:

  • A measuring tape or a piece of string and a ruler.
  • Your dog standing or sitting comfortably. Make sure your dog's neck is in a natural position.

Follow these steps to get the best fit for your dog:

1. Measure the neck circumference: Using the measuring tape or string, wrap it around the base of your dog's neck, where the collar will sit. Make sure the tape or string is snug but not too tight. You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably between the measuring tape or string and your dog's neck.

2. Take the measurement: If you're using a measuring tape, note the measurement in centimetres. If you used a piece of string, mark the point where it overlaps itself, and then measure the length of the string with a ruler to get the neck circumference.

3. Choose the appropriate collar size: Use our size chart to select the correct sized collar you wish to purchase. Some of our collars may have slightly different sizing guidelines so be sure to double check! It's better for the collar to be a bit loose rather than too tight.

4. Try it on: Once you have the new collar, put it on your dog and make sure it fits comfortably. You should be able to easily slide two fingers under the collar when it's fastened.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR A HARNESS

You will need:

  • A measuring tape or a piece of string and a ruler.
  • Your dog standing comfortably.

Follow these steps to get the best fit for your dog:

1. Measure the neck base circumference: Measure the circumference of your dog's neck where the top of the harness will sit. Make sure to measure snugly but not too tight. You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably between the tape and your dog's neck.

2. Measure the chest: Measure the widest part of your dog's chest, usually just behind the front legs. Make sure the tape is snug but not overly tight.

3. Choose the appropriate harness size: Use our size chart to select the correct sized harness you wish to purchase. Some of our harnesses may have slightly different sizing guidelines so be sure to double check!

4. Try it on: Once you have the harness, try it on your dog and make any necessary adjustments. Some of our harnesses may have multiple points of adjustment, so be sure to adjust each part accordingly for the best fit. Ensure that it fits snugly but doesn't chafe or restrict your dog's movement.

5. Test the fit: Take your dog for a short walk or jog to see if the harness stays in place and doesn't rub or cause discomfort. Adjust as needed.

Remember to refer back to our sizing chart for each product.
